Strengthening Home-Based Child Care: Ideas from States Awarded Preschool Development Birth-Five Grants

Based on states’ funded renewal applications for the federal Preschool Development Grant Birth-to-Five (PDG B-5) program, this brief report developed by the BUILD Initiative summarizes the approaches used by states to strengthen the supply and quality of home-based child care, including strengthening supportive infrastructure. This brief provides recommendations for states related to using data and stakeholder input to identify home-based child care providers’ needs, as well as recommendations for federal leaders related to supporting states through technical assistance and dedicated funding.
