This seminal report from the Institute of Medicine and National Research Council of the National Academies explores the science behind early childhood learning and offers methods to turn the science into practice. This report provides early childhood professionals with a unified overview of the essential components of early childhood learning and of the principles behind quality practice. It includes actionable recommendations that aim to help policymakers and early care and education (ECE) professionals improve the quality of ECE through targeted enhancements to the education of care providers, the practices used to evaluate providers, and the leadership and policies that shape and guide providers.
